Component Word : samaanajayaat jvalanam.
Sutra in English : samaanajayaajjvalanam.40.
Meaning in English : (samaana-jayaat) By obtaining mastery over the Samaana breath system by Sanyama, the yogi (jvalanam) gets effulgence i.e., his body shines (= obtains luminosity i.e., his body glows).
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : jitasamaanastejasa upadhmaana.m kRRitvaa jvalati.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : (jita-samaanaH) By obtaining mastery over the Samaana breath system in the body, the yogi (upadhmaanam kritvaa) stimulates (tejasaH) refulgence and thereby (jvalati) his body glows.
Vedic Commentary in English : In this aphorism fruit of mastery over the Samaana system of breath is explained. Samaana system of breath manifests from the heart to the navel and carries juices of food to all parts of the body equally. This has been explained by Seer Pippalaada in Prashana-UpaniShada as follows —
madhye tu samaanaH. eSha hi-etad-dhutamannam samannayati tasmaat-etaaH saptaarchiSho bhavanti. (3.5)
Samaana breath manifests between the Praana and Apaana breath systems. It gets the food digested and takes the juices to keep all the substances of the body in equilibrium by that digested food seven seers in the head, (two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, and one mouth), become capable of performing.
In the same way, while commenting on "samaano yaGYena kalpataa.m svaahaa" (Yajurveda 22.23), Swami Dayanand wrote that "Samaana breath system, which makes the juices of food equally distributed, should be used along with the performance of yoga and "Yagya".
In this way, we observe that the Samaana system of breath distributes the juices of food to all the parts of the body. If the juices of foods reach some parts of the body and do not reach other parts, then such other parts will not get power and become weak. The breath system is that fire = power which performs this work properly, and without this, the body cannot remain healthy. As per Bhoja, the Samaana breath system pervades the digestive fire of the stomach; and if this digestive fire does not work properly, then the body cannot remain fit. In this way, the Samaana breath system properly controls the digestive fire of the stomach and thereby brings effulgence to the body. Hence yogi, by knowing the property of the Samaana breath system, performs Sanyama over it to obtain mastery thereby, and with the result, he is able to make his body glow.
