In English:
Component Word : tat api bahira~Ngam nirbiijasya.
Sutra in English : tadapi bahira~Nga.m nirbiijasya.8.
Meaning in English : (tad-api) Even these three means of Cognitive Trance are also (bahira~Ngam) external for achievement (nirbiijasya) of seedless = Ultra-cognitive Trance.
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : tadapyantara~Nga.m saadhanatraya.m nirbiijasya yogasya bahira~Nga.m bhavati. kasmaat. tadabhaave bhaavaaditi.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : (tat saadhanatrayam) These three = Concentration, Meditation, and Trance, (antara~Ngam) which are intimate means for the achievement of Cognitive Trance, (api) also (bhavati) become (bahira~Ngam) external (nirbiijasya yogasya) for the achievement of seedless = Ultra-cognitive Trance. (kasmaat) Why? Because it is (bhaavaat) achieved (tad abhaave iti) upon the cessation of these three also.
Vedic Commentary in English : Restraint and Observance are the external accessories of yoga for attaining Cognitive Trance; and Concentration, Meditation, and Trance, being the direct means of attaining Cognitive Trance, are known as internal accessories of yoga. Here for achieving the Ultra-cognitive Trance, Concentration, Meditation, and Trance are said as external accessories, since on cessation of these seedless = Ultra-cognitive Trance is achieved. In fact, in Concentration, Meditation, and Trance one object = subject is made as the base, and the form of that object = subject alone is cognized in the Cognitive Trance. But in the Ultra-cognitive Trance, none of the subject = object, which was made as the base of Cognitive Trance, remains as a base. Hence in such a situation, Concentration, Meditation, and Trance are not useful for achieving seedless = Ultra-cognitive Trance. But without achieving the planes of Cognitive Trance, a yogi cannot achieve the Ultra-cognitive Trance, so, these — Concentration, Meditation, and Trance are said as external accessories for this Trance. On cessation of these i.e., one-pointedness and form-cognition of objects = subjects, and yogi is able to achieve the Ultra-cognitive Trance.
There is no indication of internal means for achieving the Ultra-cognitive Trance in this aphorism and its commentary. Seer Patanjali had prescribed "Supreme Desirelessness" in aphorism 1.21 and "Devotion to GOD" in aphorism 1.23 as a direct means for achieving this Ultra-cognitive Trance. Based on the intensity of these means one is able to achieve the Ultra-cognitive Trance and its fruits quickly or with delay.
With regard to the intimacy of "Devotion to GOD" for Ultra-cognitive Trance, it is clearly said that - "having full-hearted devotion to GOD, the mind calms down and one attains the trance speedily" (Swami Dayanand Saraswati - Rigvedaadibhaashyabhuumika - on worship), i.e., by Devotion to GOD, all the confusions, duality in the mind of the yogi get cleared i.e., he understands the avoid-ness of Matter and usefulness of GOD and therefore he restrains the base of Matter in all respects and gets involved in the form of GOD, and in this state, he achieves Ultra-cognitive Trance.
