Component Word : tat jayaat praj~naalokaH.
Sutra in English : tajjayaat praj~naalokaH.5.
Meaning in English : (jayaat) By achievement of (tat) Sanyama, yogi gets (praj~naalokaH) lumination of cognition.
Ancient Seer Commentary in English : tasya sa.myamasya jayaatsamaadhipraj~naayaa bhavatyaaloko yathaa yathaa sa.myamaH sthirapado bhavati tathaa tathaa samaadhipraj~naa vishaaradii bhavati.
Ancient seer Meaning in English : (jayaat) By the achievement of (tasya) that (sa.nyamasya) Sanyama (aalokaH) Illumination of (samaadhi-praj~naayaaH) trance-cognition (bhavati) takes place. (yathaa-yathaa) As (sa.nyamaH) Sanyama (bhavati) becomes (sthirapadaH) firmer and firmer (tathaa-tathaa) so, does (samaadhi-praj~naH) trance-cognition (bhavati) becomes (vishaaradii) more and more lucid and able to cognizes the subtle objects and subjects.
Vedic Commentary in English : By the proper practice of Sanyama, the devotee achieves trance-cognition. His mind takes the form of targeted object = subject, and he attains superior cognition i.e., even achieves discriminative knowledge. The mind of such devotee properly cognizes the targeted object = subject without any false knowledge.
It had been clearly said by Seer Patanjali in 1.48 that on attaining mental Illumination by the proficiency of Ultra-meditative Cognitive Trance, the mind of the yogi retains the truth only. This fact is also explained in this aphorism. As the Sanyama becomes firmer and firmer, so, the trance-cognition becomes more and more lucid. The mind of such devotees becomes pure and is able to know the past, present, and future characteristic changes and condition changes of the objects; and gross, subtle, and indirect subjects also.
In this way, the devotee, by performing Sanyama on various subjects, not only obtains the real knowledge of those subjects but also achieves the relative attainments as prescribed in respective aphorisms. Such type of trace-cognition is not achieved automatically but is achieved, in the system of GOD, after his full efforts and as per his ability only. GOD alone is the source of infinite knowledge and is the cause of all types of knowledge of the universe, which is available in the form of a principle of work and cause. (Ref - tatra niratishayam sarvGYabiijam. Yoga 1.25). So, for the achievement of the luminosity of cognition by performing Sanyama, the system of GOD alone is working. The act of Sanyama, in such a state, is to be known as an act that gives its fruits in the present life and whose fruits are definite, and the devotee receives the fruits of this act in the Trance immediately.
A devotee should also know that along with the performance of Concentration, Meditation, and Trance, the performance of previous accessories in the form of Restraints and Observances, etc. is a must. It has already been clarified earlier that verbal knowledge from Vedas and Vedic literature on the subjects of Trance is a must, before proceeding with trance-cognition on such subjects. So, without performing the fourth Observance - "Study", by the mere performance of Sanyama, one will not be able to achieve the desired Illumination of cognition.
